Lawrence Edward Parker

Lawrence Edward “Bob” Parker, 75, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Hospice House of Savannah.

Bob served in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He attended Clemson University. He was employed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as a hydraulic engineering technician, retiring after thirty years of service. Upon retirement, Bob founded Park’s Enterprises, offering landscaping and home remodeling services.

Bob was a loyal supporter of the Georgia Southern University Eagles from the inception of its football program and, until his illness, rarely missed a game. He especially enjoyed the pre-game festivities with “the tailgaters”.

Bob was an avid runner and particularly enjoyed Atlanta’s Peachtree Road Race. He relished going to Charleston, SC with special friends to run the Cooper River Bridge Run.

A dedicated cyclist, Bob loved to ride through the beautiful Isle of Hope area. He participated in the Bike Ride Across Georgia B.R.A.G and also rode to Charleston, SC, Key West, FL, and Daytona Beach, FL.

Bob’s approach to his battle with cancer mirrored his attitude toward life in general, which was: live it all and completely, soldier on, never give in, and never give up. His family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice Savannah, the oncology staff of 4 North Candler Hospital, and particularly to Dr. Mark Taylor and research coordinator Angie Leach of Summit Cancer Institute, whose unwavering dedication to Bob’s care and level of compassion for surpassed the doctor-patient relationship and crossed into the realm of strong and abiding friendship.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, his friends are invited to join his family for a 6:30 p.m. memorial service at the Coffee Bluff Marine Rescue Squadron and afterwards at an informal reception to reminisce and share old memories on Sunday, August 5, 2007. Please bring pictures, anecdotes, or memorabilia which may be used by the family to create a lasting tribute to Bob.

His survivors include a son, Lawrence E. Parker, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, daughters Stephanie Schiavone and Hannah Parker, both of Savannah, and daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Ben Williams of Marietta, Ga. He is also survived by three granddaughters: Chelsea Parker and Guerin Nolen of Savannah, and Eleanor William of Marietta, GA.

Remembrances may be sent to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, at www.laf.org or mail to: Lance Armstrong Foundation, National Mail Processing Center, P.O. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN, 56007-6603
